Q) Are you a franchise operation?
A) Although Hallmark stores are nationally recognized as a brand, the stores (excepting corporate stores) are independently owned. What this means is that each and every Hallmark store is going to be unique. While a certain amount of footage is dedicated to Hallmark products, such as greeting cards or gift wrap, the remaining products are selected by the owners of the store. This is why if you are looking for a specific product that you saw at one particular store, it may not be carried by a different Hallmark store.

As a result, what you see at Vale Edge Florist & Hallmark is unique. Few Hallmark stores have Trollbeads, Chamilia, Miche Bag, and even tuxedo rental! These are just a few of the items that truly make our store a unique shopping experience. Know that if you shop at our store, you are supporting a local merchant and its employees. We are not corporate-owned nor are we a franchise. Our philosophy is that we need to support our Ravenna community by shopping locally. In this way, the community will thrive.

Q) Is the Hallmark Gold Crown Rewards card a credit card?
A) No. The Hallmark Gold Crown Rewards card is a loyalty card, offered to you free of charge. Each time you make a purchase at our store, whether it is in our Hallmark gift division or in our floral division, you have the opportunity to earn rewards points. Hallmark will periodically send you gift certificates based upon the amount you have spent within a certain period of time. In addition, as a member of the Hallmark Gold Crown Rewards program, you will also receive special offers, such as member-only promotions for special gifts, invitations to special events, and a birthday coupon.

Q) You're just a florist, right?
A) Our store originally started as a florist, but over the past decade, also became a Hallmark Gold Crown Store.

A) We are located at 247 S. Chestnut Street in Ravenna, near the Courthouse.

A) We are open Monday-Friday from 9 AM - 7 PM; Saturdays from 9 AM - 5 PM; and Sundays from 11 AM - 4 PM

What is a floral order gatherer?

When you look through the yellow pages in your phone book or on google, you may see advertisements for floral gatherers who take orders for your area. However, if you do a little searching, these may not actually be florists in the city or area where you want your flowers delivered. In short, these are floral brokers or floral gatherers. This is how it works:

You call (or order online) through a floral gatherer's company. Say you order an arrangement that costs $100 dollars.

The floral gatherer will take a cut -- let's pretend it's $30 for the order (this is their profit).

The floral gatherer will then send the order to a florist in the area where you want your flowers delivered. However, the floral gatherer will send $70 dollars to the designing florist (because remember, they've taken the $30). The floral designer may also be vague in their description to the floral designer, asking them to "fill the order as similarly as possible" to the image or description of the arrangement. This leads to disappointed recipients and the person who ordered the arrangment.

In short, the $100 arrangement becomes a $70 floral arrangment.

How do you avoid being shortchanged? The best way is to call your local florist directly. This way, you will get what you ordered. Your $100 dollar arrangement will be the way it should be.

The holidays are around the corner, and we'd like to share a few gift ideas over the next month or two. And of course, if you need us to help find the perfect gift for that special person, just let us know.

This is one of many Hallmark Keepsake ornaments that is available.

This particular ornament, 100 Years of Helping You Say It All, tells the story of Hallmark. Here are a few interesting facts about this ornament:

The train at the bottom represents the arrival of J. Hall in Kansas City. The houses surrounding the tree are replicas of the Nostalgic Homes ornament series. The ornaments on the tree are from the Twelve Days of Christmas series.

And the little sculpted base? If you look carefully, you'll see that there is a shoebox with cards in it. When Hallmark started selling cards, the cards were sold door-to-door in shoeboxes. As the cards became more popular, they were sold in stores and were displayed under glass countertops. Customers would let the sales clerk know which cards he or she wanted. This is where the phrase, "counter cards" comes from.

Did you also know that before wrapping paper was used, gifts were wrapped in tissue paper? One day, a customer came to a Hallmark store, but they had run out of tissue paper, so Mr. Hall used envelope lining paper to wrap the gift that the customer purchased. Thus, gift wrap was born.
